A Design that Reflects the Collectivistic Indian Lifestyle

A design that illustrates the lifestyle of an Indian family, Amara Bari promotes a balanced attitude towards generational differences amongst the residents. The linear form of the design changes planes to form frames, showcasing the use of wood, metal, and light fittings to create an interesting play of surfaces. These elements not only add to the aesthetic charm but also serve a purpose, making the design socially cohesive.

The apartment spans 2600 square feet and includes three bedrooms, five bathrooms, a living room, a dining room with kitchen and utility, a pooja ghar, a box room, a terrace, and a multipurpose room. The design style adopted for Amara Bari is modern, resulting in a clutter-free space that is socially cohesive.

The overall space of Amara Bari is characterized by simplistic straight design lines, earthy tones, neutral shades, and the use of wood as a common material palette. To keep the design rooted in Indian culture, eclectic elements from various eras are incorporated, along with the form and color of furnishings.

Completing the project in 18 months, Amee Vora and her team created a design that satisfies the modern design style brief laid down by the younger generation of the family, while also meeting the requirements of a Vastu compliant interior layout. Vastu, a science believed to bring harmony and prosperity, presented a challenge in balancing its principles with the design's aesthetics.

Amara Bari has been recognized for its excellence in design, receiving the Iron A' Design Award in 2019. This prestigious award is given to well-designed, practical, and innovative creations that meet professional and industrial requirements, contributing to a better world.
